# /grant/permission/datasource

Grants a [data source](../../concepts/data_sources/) permission to a user
or role.

## Input Parameter Description

<ParamField body="name" type="string">
  Name of the user or role to which the permission will be granted. Must be an existing user or role.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="permission" type="string">
  Permission to grant to the user or role.

  * **admin**: Admin access on the given data source.
  * **connect**: Connect access on the given data source.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="datasource_name" type="string">
  Name of the data source on which the permission will be granted. Must be an existing data source, or an empty string to grant permission on all data sources.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="options" type="map of string to strings">
  Optional parameters.

  The default value is an empty map ( \{} ).
</ParamField>

## Output Parameter Description

The Kinetica server embeds the endpoint response inside a standard response structure which contains status information and the actual response to the query.  Here is a description of the various fields of the wrapper:

  Empty if success or an error message

  'grant\_permission\_datasource\_response' or 'none' in case of an error
