# /grant/permission/system

Grants a system-level permission to a user or role.

## Input Parameter Description

<ParamField body="name" type="string">
  Name of the user or role to which the permission will be granted. Must be an existing user or role.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="permission" type="string">
  Permission to grant to the user or role.

  * **system\_admin**: Full access to all data and system functions.
  * **system\_user\_admin**: Access to administer users and roles that do not have system\_admin permission.
  * **system\_write**: Read and write access to all tables.
  * **system\_read**: Read-only access to all tables.
  * **system\_send\_alert**: Send system alerts.

  Optional parameters.

  The default value is an empty map ( \{} ).

## Output Parameter Description

The Kinetica server embeds the endpoint response inside a standard response structure which contains status information and the actual response to the query.  Here is a description of the various fields of the wrapper:

  Empty if success or an error message
