# /grant/role

```

Grants membership in a role to a user or role.

## Input Parameter Description

<ParamField body="role" type="string">
  Name of the role in which membership will be granted. Must be an existing role.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="member" type="string">
  Name of the user or role that will be granted membership in input parameter *role*. Must be an existing user or role.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="options" type="map of string to strings">
  Optional parameters.

  The default value is an empty map ( \{} ).
</ParamField>

## Output Parameter Description

The Kinetica server embeds the endpoint response inside a standard response structure which contains status information and the actual response to the query.  Here is a description of the various fields of the wrapper:

  Empty if success or an error message

  'grant\_role\_response' or 'none' in case of an error
