# Collections

Collections are the precursors to [schemas](/content/concepts/schemas), introduced in
*Kinetica v7.1*.

Any *collections* in prior versions will become *schemas* after upgrade, and any
*tables* & *views* not contained within *collections* will be placed in the
[home schema](/content/concepts/schemas#schema-home).

Operations on *collections* will no longer be supported after upgrade.
