# LIST DIRECTORY

<a id="sql-kifs-list-dir" />

Outputs detail about one or all
[KiFS directories](/content/tools/kifs_api#kifs-directory).

```sql title="LIST DIRECTORY Syntax" theme={null}
<LIST|DESC[RIBE]> DIRECTOR[Y|IES] [ '<directory name>' | * ]
```

<Info>
  Only one *directory* can be named; a comma-separated list will return
  an error. To output the DDL used to create a *directory* instead of its
  detail, see [SHOW DIRECTORY](/content/sql/kifs/show-directory#sql-kifs-show-dir).
</Info>

## Parameters

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="<directory name>" id="<directory-name>" defaultOpen>
    Name of the existing *directory* for which detail will be output.
    Use `*`, or omit the name entirely, to output detail of all
    *directories*.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Response

The response to `LIST DIRECTORY` is a six-column result set:

| Output Column | Description |
| - | - |
| `DIRECTORY_NAME` | Name of the *directory* |
| `CREATED_BY` | User ID of the user who created the *directory*; blank unless this command is run as a system administrator |
| `CREATION_TIME` | Date/time at which the *directory* was created |
| `DATA_USAGE` | Amount of used file storage within the *directory*, in bytes; updated as files are added & removed |
| `DATA_LIMIT` | Total amount of file storage available to the *directory*, in bytes. A *directory* keeps the limit it was created with, so this may differ between *directories* if the database-wide default has since changed |
| `PERMISSION` | Highest level of access to the *directory* the command issuer has--either `directory_write` or `directory_read` |

## Examples

To output the detail about a *directory*, `kdata`:

```sql LIST DIRECTORY Example theme={null}
LIST DIRECTORY 'kdata'
```

To output the detail for all *directories*:

```sql LIST DIRECTORIES (All Directories) Example theme={null}
LIST DIRECTORIES *
```
