# SHOW DIRECTORY

<a id="sql-kifs-show-dir" />

Outputs the DDL statement required to reconstruct one or all
[KiFS directories](/content/tools/kifs_api#kifs-directory).

```sql title="SHOW DIRECTORY Syntax" theme={null}
SHOW DIRECTOR[Y|IES] [ '<directory name>' | * ]
```

<Info>
  Only one *directory* can be named; a comma-separated list will return
  an error. To output a *directory's* detail instead of its DDL, see
  [LIST DIRECTORY](/content/sql/kifs/list-directory#sql-kifs-list-dir).
</Info>

## Parameters

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="<directory name>" id="<directory-name>" defaultOpen>
    Name of the existing *directory* whose DDL will be output.
    Use `*`, or omit the name entirely, to output the DDL of all
    *directories*.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Response

The response to `SHOW DIRECTORY` is a single-column result set:

| Output Column | Description |
| - | - |
| `DDL` | The `CREATE DIRECTORY` statement that would recreate the *directory*, including its configured options |

## Examples

To output the DDL for a *directory*, `kdata`:

```sql SHOW DIRECTORY Example theme={null}
SHOW DIRECTORY 'kdata';
```

```sql SHOW DIRECTORY Output theme={null}
| kdata/products.csv       | 1343   | admin        | 2026-10-09 19:40:44.675   |
| kdata/employee.pq        | 2918   | admin        | 2026-10-09 19:40:44.771   |
| kdata/employee.csv       | 1148   | admin        | 2026-10-09 19:40:44.771   |
| kdata/employee.parquet   | 2918   | admin        | 2026-10-09 19:40:44.771   |
+--------------------------+--------+--------------+---------------------------+
Rows read: 5
SHOW FILES 'kdata';
```

To output the DDL for all *directories*:

```sql SHOW DIRECTORIES (All Directories) Example theme={null}
SHOW DIRECTORIES *;
```

<Info>
  The DDL for a *home directory* is
  emitted with an empty *directory* name, the owning user being given in a
  `create_home_directory` option instead.
