# DROP USER

Any [user](/content/security/sec_concepts#security-concepts-users), other than the
[default users](/content/security/sec_concepts#security-concepts-users-default), can be removed from the
system.  Note that any database objects created by a user will remain when the
user is removed.

```sql title="DROP USER Syntax" theme={null}
DROP USER <user name>
```

## Examples

To drop an internal user **jsmith**:

```sql DROP USER (Internal) Example theme={null}
DROP USER jsmith
```

To drop an external LDAP user **jsmith**:

```sql DROP USER (External) Example theme={null}
DROP USER "@jsmith"
```
